You may think this is strange, but please tell me if i'm going crazy or being retarded. My computer every know and then, makes this sound like the fan is vibrating on the left of the computer and it last for about 10 minutes then stop. My computer is a Dell Optiplex GX60 and my brother doesn't get this problem, in fact I haven't heard a computer do this before. Now get this, I was trying to record the sound on my camcorder, the sound is pretty loud, but when I pressed play, I didn't hear it all I heard was the t.v., and also get this, my dad is a computer technician and never heard that sound and also he says he can't hear the sound and it's about 2 rooms loud. My whole family can't hear the sound when it happens, only me and I don't know if this is a problem with this kind of computer or if it's just me.

My parents and my whole household is saying they don't hear anything from the computer even when they put thier faces down on it. I think it's haunted, or maybe someone put them "misquito" ring tone on a cell phone and whenever the computer turns on someone calls and it makes the people above 18 not hear it. I got it from Ebay.com from Surplus Products and this guy sold millions of these and they are newly reformated and they have been used but all the fans have been fixed and everythings been updated besides the sound and graphics card.

No, its NOT a virus! It is a hardware problem, if you have a fan in that location of the noise, next time you hear it take the door off of the case and stop the fan with you finger, if that stops the noise, then you know the problem, an unbalanced CD in your drive will make a funny sound and a Hard drive failure will also sound loud. If you know it is not the fan, or CD. BACK UP YOUR DATA! HDs DO fail!

Wow. Weird. Not Good. Maybe.

Dell Optiplex GX60 is pretty old. I have the GX110, and it is very old. My computer never makes that kind of sound. It's just you. Maybe. Find another computer technician who works for a real company, like Dell. If they made it, they should know.

Seriously, I'm guessing it's just you since the camcorder didn't hear it.

Really?
I've never heard of that happening before. You should call your computer company. Sometimes when something is wrong, they may take the computer back and you can get a new one. If they do not know, maybe you could sell that computer ( don't tell about what is wrong with it ) and use the money to get a new one. Or call one of your local Computer Geeks And Nerds. They would have it fixed in no time.

When you say you're the only one who can hear it...do you mean that nobody can hear the recording...or nobody can hear the computer itself making noise except you. Obviously if it's the latter there's something wrong with you. Otherwise...a loud fan is "normal" as in it's nothing bad. It can get a little annoying sometimes...but computers do that as they age. How old is the machine?

Ordinarily i would have suggest you take your computer to a technician but you said your father is one and does not hear the sound and no one else hears the sound except you, ask your father to take you to the psychiatrist before the noise escapes from your house to the neighborhood it could be disturbing you know

Computers do make noise when something is wrong. It might be the fan or hard drive. Ask your dad to run Dell's diagnostic.

if it is a loud whine then it is the hard drives
1. open the computer and unplug the hard drive's power cable
if the noise stops its your hard drive
IF THAT DOESN'T WORK
2. unplug the fans one by one until the noise goes away
that should help you determine if it is the fan
3. IF the whine stays it is your power supply
4. replace the power supply or get a new pc
preferably AMD

It's probably your computer... you're not retarded...Mine used to do that...Just give it a good kick or move it...

About others not hearing it... Sorry but maybe they don't want anything to do with the problem, or Dad doesn't want to have to buy you a new computer..:)

My only advice is to clean the fans and check they are balanced.
