here is a great thread on beginner bikes from experienced riders. It seems the consensus for sports bikes is a kawasaki ninja 250. Its quick, has amazing resale, handles well, inexpensive (you will drop it a few times if youre a beginner), and it will teach you very well and not leave you as an organ donor.

they may not be the most "cool" bike out there (granted, i do still love them), but think about this before you want to start on a 600 cc bike or similar: The GSX600 accelerates to 100 faster than a porsche carrera GT. Thats a 615 hp, 410,000 dollar supercar. Try learning to drive in that. Oh yeah, and the bike can throw you off a million different ways. At least the car has something around you.

PLEASE do yourself a favor and read the thread. I know its long, but it could save you your life.

Truth

Buy a Kawasaki Ninja 250.

You will love it and you will learn all you ever needed to know.

If and when you sell it to buy "a bigger real bike" you will always look back on the 250 and wish you still had it.

if you are a begginner you should start out with any used 500 cc..no more. the fact i, is htat you are going to take a fall, if your lucky to walk away from and you still want to purchase a bike learn on something thats not too expensive and isn't too powerful.
