Are you buying physical or are you buying funds? Actual metals that I have purchased have always been without. Contact a coin store and ask. Scotsman Coin in St Louis is very knowledgeable, try them.

It may be the case with bars of gold silver or platinum at a store that sells bullion, but I was sure that Pure siver one ounce coins and pure gold one ounce coins were not taxed.
