Put a little baking soda on the stain, or odor area. Let set for a while, and then scrub gently with a cloth and some warm water that has more baking soda dissolved in it. Baking soda naturally absorbs odors!

Arm & Hammer has a powdered product called Pet Fresh. You sprinkle over the carpet leave it for about 10 minutes. Then vacuum it up. You can leave it longer if the smell is very strong. It doesn't stain or get dusty as you're vacuuming. It leaves a light scent for an hour or so in the room but then it just fades away. It's the best thing that I have ever used for this problem.

For urine odors, I have found that Nature's Miracle works the best. We had problems with puppies peeing on our rugs for a long time, and we poured some of that into a carpet cleaner, cleaned the carpets, and the smells vanished. It also works really good for pet stains. If you are referring to just typical "dog smell" it will also get rid of that too.

If you are looking for something cheaper to cover up the odor, just get Pet Fresh carpet powder, let it sit, then vacuum it up.

Pet Carpet Baking Soda, or regular baking soda and sprinkle it all over the carpet and then vacuum, or even use Woolite pet odor/stain remover, then let it dry and vacuum! it works!....my house doesn't even smell like pet odor anymore!

Go to a pet store and get a product called "Nature's Miracle" or similar products based on enzymes that break down organic matter (since it's the organic stuff which smells in your carpet).

Spot-spray the places that stink, or add it to a normal carpet steam cleaning solution.

I just spray Febreeze or Odor-ban and then vacuum my carpets.

Febreeze works pretty well. Pet stores sell urine odor eliminator, which seems to work for dogs, but my cats can still smell the pee underneath.

i hope you get a good answer to this, i want to know too!
Febreeze hasnt worked for me, and other sprays dont work.

I even bought stuff from pet stores and rented a carpet cleaner, no luck.

Baking soda has worked best for me so far.

Good luck!

if its urine smell try amonia with water to nuetralize the smell then steam clean the carpets with an antibacterial cleaning product such as Bissel or Hoover products. That is a pain in the butt to do but if you want to get the smell out it really works.
