My friends new laptop is running on Vista, and now is having several problems with access speeds for Microsoft applications. Upon speaking to Microsoft, she was advised to upgrade by adding another 512mb RAM chip (bringing it up to 1Gb). If I do this, will I have to update the BIOS setup? I am assuming no for now, as the laptop is brand new, am I wrong in my assumption?
Input greatly appreciated...

BIOS will probably not have to be updated. I'm pretty sure you can just plug it in. To check and see if it's there, hit Control-Alt-Delete to open up Task Manager and make a note of the number of total physical memory available (in the performance tab on the right). When you install the 512, this number should theoretically double.

Go to http://www.crucial.com/ and hit Scan My System button to see how much more memory your friend's laptop can hold. You don't have to deal with BIOS settings normally
