Easy surgery. A hernia is not something that is removed. A tear in the muscle has allowed the intestine to slip through. They will sew up that tear and you'll be fine...albeit no lifting etc. The incision is really tiny.

I just had an umbilical hernia repair done on 2/23. I was back to work 3/01. Of course I sit at a desk all day so not much rick.
I had the inguinal hernia repair done in the early 80's. Was in the hospital for 4 days and off work for 4 months.
My how things have changed.
But like a previous answer said there are risks with all surgery.
It really isn't a big deal. However I have had 4 procedures done in the past and thought I would not worry about this most recent one. But I became nervous the night before and barely slept.
Good luck you will be fine.

I've had the surgery. Mine was ischemic, meaning it was really bad and the oxygen was being cut off--my intestine was stuck in the abdominal wall.
My advice?? Plan to take a couple weeks off work if you can. I would certainly recommend someone accompany you there and back and stay with you for at least 48 hours. Take your pain medication even if you don't feel pain. I was stubborn about that and it wasn't a good idea. Have whoever is going to stay with you wake you up to give you the medication. Make sure you walk around every couple hours to prevent thrombosis. Your leg may be numb for some time--they need to cut the nerves, but the sensation will come back. Get some stool softeners in case the pain meds make you constipated. Take a multivitamin everyday and make sure you eat and drink a lot of water--this will speed recovery and will keep you healthy while you heal.
I am the BIGGEST baby when it comes to pain. It was my first surgery and in hindsight, it really wasn't a big deal. The second day is the worst, but thereafter you'll improve. You'll be so wonked on pain pills, will sleep for a couple days so it'll seem like a dream and, before you know it, you'll feel better.
Good luck. A little scary to be getting surgery, but you'll stop getting constipated and you'll be able to live without the pain too---I'm assuming you have the same symptoms I did?? In the long-term, it's worth it and it's necessary. If it becomes ischemic you'll risk blockages and big, big problems.

Any surgery is a risk factor. I had two inguinal hernia. The risk depends on how bad your hernia is and what needs to be done, Both your Surgeon and Anesthetics will discuss the procedure and all possible risk involved . This type of surgery is common with a very low risk factor to it. Yet surgery is a risk no matter how minor our large it may be.

Simple enough - the any penetration of the hernia by body tissue is reversed by pushing things back into place, then the hole in the muscle tissue is sewn up. You'll have to take it easy for a few weeks, but the procedure is very routine.

have self assurance it or not hernias are very quickly forward in toddlers. My 10 week previous son has a herniated bellybutton. yet he does not choose surgical therapy for it. His will interior of attain ability of itself in time. Inguinal hernias regrettably do would desire to be addressed surgically inspite of the reality that. yet from what I particularly have learn this is an quite quickly forward technique and that i would not situation too lots approximately it. good success and congrats on your new toddler! :-)

My bro had two surgeries the 2nd to repair the 1st one. They did the 1st one the old fashion way and the 2nd using the mesh. He said he healed a lot faster with the mesh. But for the 1st couple of months he could feel it kind of tugging until his tissue grew around it.
Good luck, and take it easy.

it's nothing to be worried about, I had it done in 1997, the night before you should shave all your pubic hair balls and all male or female nice and clean, like a new born baby!
Everything, or they will do it for you!
how would you feel that someone else shave you while you're were sleeping???
the Only problem I had, I was living with a roommate and he kept me laughing and the pain was bad it felt like the stitches were pulling apart.
you'll be OK! Don't lift anything for several weeks and be extra careful
