Ok any advice is helpful! I am not sure what is wrong with a 3 day baby goat that I took in ( her mother decided not to have anything to do with her or her brother) The billy is fine, but she is very weak (can barely walk and shivers all over even though I have her in a heated garage with her twin.

Her tempature is 103.3 F. She is not taking the bottle as well as she was yesterday but I have been getting about 2 or 3oz of goat milk replacement down her every 2-6 hours. Also she does not have diarrhea.

She did not get colostrum from her mother but I bought some colostrum from a feed store and gave it to her the past 2 days as directed.

I have a bag of fluids mixed with Vit B12 and Cefazolin. Should I give her some SQ fluids??

I understand orphaned animals don't always survive but any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

She is now started wanting the bottle again( as in she is sucking without being forced but only a few oz) We do not have any large animal vets in my area. The milk replacer I have is for goats and it says "medicated DX" on the bag. She is still so weak that she just stands up and acts like she can't walk. I don't understand because just last night she was able to walk just fine!

One thing could be she could have white muscle disease. She will need Vitamin A and Selenium quickly. Take her to a vet and they should have the supplies there. You have done all the right things otherwise.

She will take to bottle if she gets past whatever is holding her back. It may not be a disease at all, and she could just be weak from not enough minerals. Also she could be premature, don't know when she was due. As long as you keep her warm, get milk in her (you need goat's milk, milk replacer{make sure it says for goats or get whole milk/Vitamin D milk that will work too}, and try to stimulate her. Meaning touch her and encourage her to move, do not let her stay down for long periods of time. Some kids end up coming out weak, and others need the shots like I stated above. The only way to know is to take her to the vet to be sure.

Goats are very capable of surviving after being orphaned and they do fine. I've raised several. So don't worry about that and know that you are trying the best you can for her, and even if you lose her, it's ok. She sounds like she is being pampered, if you weren't there her mother probably would have left her alone and she would have starved. So try your best and hopefully some of what I said will help.

Amber, In all honesty I know NOTHING about goats... but I do have experience with abandoned kittens.... If a goat is like a kitten, they do not know how to potty on their own..and expect their mother to clean the area to stimulate evacuation.. this can be accomplished with a warm wet towel.... I think you understand what to do... As far as the temp.. if that is high.. I would consider a vet.... eating.. you may have to do it a little more often during the day.... to get her built up... I have heard about giving the runt's of litter's some sugar water to kick start their activity....

Best advice I can give.. get in touch with a vet... or a goat farmer.. they would have so much more info for you...

Good luck with her.. I hope it all works out.

Please, call your vet and see what he/she has to say. Most of the people here don't know enough about animals that young to really help.
