Classification is essential for the scientific community to communicate with one another and be able to distinguish between different species. The binomial nomenclature created by Linnaeus helps with this, so that every species has a genus and species name specific to that species. Its just a way to communicate.

Well, one reason, there are millions of species in the world. If we are going to study all of them all, the life time is not enough. Instead, we classify them, so closely related ones fall together so we can study about 'the group', which is a reflect of all organisms in that group.
For example we know ‘mammals’ – (class- mammalia) , have fur, give birth to live young, young are fed by milk produced by mother, have four chambered heart, warm blooded, etc. If somebody says us ‘the screw is a mammal’ , you know it shows those characteristics.
Now you go on a safari and see an animal you haven’t seen before. You notice that it has fur. Or you notice its young suckle milk from mother. So you ‘know’ that it’s a mammal, and you can automatically assume that it is warm blooded, it heart is four chambered etc, without actually testing the animal for those features. Classification gives you that power of accurate prediction.

Classification helps us organize our thoughts about living things and helps us study them.
Since we put living things into groups with others like them, when we know something about the group, we know something about the organisms in the group.
What do you know about Natrix sipedon?
(Hint, it's a eukaryote.)
Now we know it's in Kingdom Protista, Fungi, Plantae, or Animalia.
(Hint, it's an animal.)
Now we know it is a consumer or heterotroph, it probably moves around, ... other animal characteristics.
(Hint, it's a reptile, ... in fact, it's a snake.)
Now we know it has scales, no legs, bilateral symmetry, .....
