I think that just because you wouldnt do it to someone else, you shouldnt think any less of people that would do it to you.thats not why they are youre friends in the first place probably and its better that than a long lonely life of hiding away until YOU feel like talking to someone.
be thankful you know people who think more of you than you evidently think of them and be aware that those friends will drift away eventually if you continue down this selfish attitudinal view of life.
wow i almost surprised myself there! (is attitudinal actually a word?)

If it bothers you, just tell your friends that it'd be nice if they called to let you know to expect them. I seldom invade my friend's homes unexpectedly--unless I'm unexpectedly in their neighborhood (and sometimes I just leave them a note to say hi). And even then, I don't stay very long, just generally stop to say hi, let them know I was thinking about them, etc. I personally hate it when friends or family drop by without letting me know because I have a whole lot of things I need to accomplish in my limited free time and hate being distracted or interrupted, plus in the past some have expected me to provide lunch (which means I'd have had to go shopping since I don't eat lunch) or other food things, and I'm not always dressed (enough) to entertain guests since I tend to schlep around in rags when I'm doing stuff inside the house. I've just let everyone--including my mom--know that they must call to see if it's ok to come over and I'll honestly tell them yes or no. At first some of them were a little ticked off at me but they've all gotten use to it now.

I always call my friends before arriving at there house as I think it is rude to turn up unannounced, but my friends do not have the same thinking as me and just turn up, I also leave my front door unlocked so they just come in with out knocking.
I couple off my friends have started knocking as I have a new girlfriend and do not want to interrupt anything.

At times I get annoyed as I want to relax after work and I have other things to contend to, this puts me behind and I feel as though my whole week has been disrupted. Don't get me wrong I love my friends and family, but I feel it is common courtesy for them to let me know if they are going to drop by so I can be more organised and be the happy host. Hope this helps, cheers.

Personally I dont like to have company unannounced...and I always call and ask if a friend feels like having company before I just show up at their door.

No, it's rude, unless you like it that way. It really pisses me off when friends call to say they're coming over as they pull up in the driveway. I told them I was busy and made them wait in the driveway for an hour.

It always depends on your mood when they turn up- and also if you have anything planned, or even if you were looking forward to spending the night quietly on your own.
