i'm really confused at the question.

you are aware that the gameboy micro is less of a machine than the gameboy advance sp is, correct?

the only difference between the two is the gameboy micro is a smaller system, and the gameboy micro cannot play older gameboy and gameboy color games.

the gameboy advance sp is able to play more games than the micro.

regardless, on to answering the question, even if it's a waste of your efforts and money.

they will not let you do a direct trade. you'd trade in the GBA SP for like 25-35 dollar credit. then you can use that credit to buy a GBA Micro. the GBA micro actually only costs around 38 dollars, but gamestop/EB gamestores no longer stock them.

if the store has one, you are actually kinda lucky, in an odd way, and will be able to get your wish. on the whole, the trade will possibly cost you between 5-10 dollars.

however, there's another thing to remember. gamestop actually is more expensive on many items. such as the slimline ps2 (20 dollars more at gamestop than at any other retail location!)

Go for the nintendo DS if your looking for a gameboy. It is an awsome system and it has tons of cool games. If you are going to stick with the basics stick with the sp the micro is kind of hard to see......

No do not get a Game Boy Micro. I don't really like it. The screen is tiny, and it is very uncomfortable. I do not suggest changing it.
