I need at least 10-12 hours of sleep in order to have a good nights sleep! Any hour or two less than that and I spend the whole day nodding off. Sometimes, my sleep routine is stuck in a nocturnal stage when I sleep too late (I end up waking up in the afternoon or even at night) and it is impossible for me to adjust back to day time. I have absolutely NO will power at all to force myself to wake up...seriously.

There are lots of things that cause you to want to sleep a lot. Having too high of blood sugar is one of those things. Not saying you are diabetic... but if you can get into the dr's and have it checked that might be a good idea. If you don't have insurance, see if anyone you know has a blood sugar test kit (glucometer, finger prick thing) - yes this part sucks - but it can help identify why you might be feeling lethargic. I have (unknowingly) had diabetes symptoms for the last 10 years. All I had to do to get it under control was a few days of testing, to figure out that it was sugar, cereal, pasta, and pop that was causing my problem. I cut down on those foods and I feel a LOT better. Many people have no symptoms of diabetes - especially younger folks - so get it checked out.

Go to bed at the same time each night. Wake up at the same time each morning. Take a melatonin pill at bedtime. Get out in the sunshine for a few minutes each day.

Exercise and change your diet. Diet has a profound effect on your general health - if your diet is crappy you will feel like crap. Try to eat a diet that mainly consists of whole fresh foods - no processed crap and try to cut back calorie dense foods like rice, potatoes, bread, beans and cereals. When it comes to meals have 1/3 protein and 2/3 fresh vegetables. Good luck.

Eat a rich in fiber & protein breakfast... I know the following is going to sound absolutely gross, but eat toast, preferably whole wheat or whole grain and beans... This is a very good combo to jump start our brain in the morning. I have a friend who does it and swears by it.

if you're a bit overweight or snores a lot with daytime sleepiness , just make sure you rule out having an Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( OSA ) , go to a sleep center or better yet see your Pulmonologist
