We just released a veteran blocking full back, William Henderson, after 12 years. I know rebuilding is necessary, but why release a loyal player like him?

They released him?Thats stupid of them.They have plenty of cap room and he's been one of the best players in Packers history.He and Brett Favre were the only ones left on the 1996 championship team.Know it won't happen but I hope they sign him as a free agent.I'm very dissapointed,I'd rather have him then Moss or any other fullback in the league.I'm going to the Packers website now to see if there is a way I can complain.

I'm guessing he was too expensive to keep. After 12 years, he was probably making at least a few million, and with the way salaries have skyrocketed lately, they probably found that hard to justify in a fullback. They'll be able to find some second- or third-year player who can do all the things Henderson could do, for half a million a year, and life will go on. That's the NFL nowadays, loyalty is not as much of a priority anymore.

Green Bay is fine. I don't like the releasing of Henderson though. Keep him on as a RB coach or something like that, maybe a 2nd string FB because he is getting a little older. But it is what it is and there must be $$$ involved. They will be fine.
As far as free agency goes, the Packers never grow through free agency. They will build through the draft as they always do.

salary cap issues. a player entring his 12th year is expensive...even the minimum salary for a player 12 years or more is well over a million a year, and a good player like that will be paid alot more, and full backs are not seen as a great value to a team.

He didnt do anything last season. Loyalty is not an aspect that is looked at in football.
