The CO2 in soda pop will mix with water to form weak Carbonic acid. If wiped away it probably just took off a bit of wax. It is so weak that it would take quite a while to burn into your paint.
Makes a good wax stripper, though

Coca Cola contains a mild acid which can damage paintwork on anything - it can also stain fabrics if left for a long period of time. The extent of the damage to paintwork on metals will be minimal even if left on for a long time. If your car has metallic paint and the damage is to the top layer of the paint (the metallic effect) then cleaning back to showroom finish will be difficult and expensive. If your car has a normal paint finish then the cleaning and removal of any stain (and minor scratches) is easy.
1) clean the car and allow to dry.
2) apply a small amount of T-Cut (available at garages and car accessory shops) and gently (with a soft, clean cloth) rub in the T-Cut over the damaged area and slightly to the side of the damage onto the good paintwork. The T-Cut contains ammonia and small particles of grit - this smears some of the top layer of the good paintwork onto the damaged area.
3) Polish the area with a fresh soft cloth.
4) Wash the car with water only and allow to dry.
5) Job done.
Do not use T-Cut on an extremely hot day.

Coca Cola is terribly caustic. If you have a rusty fork or other rusty metal and leave it in coke for a day or so, when you pick it up the rust will be gone. All you non-believers should try it. And think about what that does to your teeth!

my personal observations are that it has a similar effect on car paintwork to that of seagull cookies it tends to erode it. i would suggest removing it with t cut. modern car paints are water based and in my opinion do not have the durability of say the old twin packs finishes which used iso cianate as a hardener. pub landlords used to place liver in coke and in bitter to demenstrate it's effects

No it is not true. It does not contain any chemical strong enough to remove paint from a car. It will just dry up and be sticky. Could leave a stain from the dyes in it though.

Yes, because it contains a high content of citric acid. You can put bolts and battery terminals in some coke overnight and it will come out like new in the morning.

It's not likely Coke will damage your cars finish. Just don't leave it on there forever.

My mother-in-law uses Coke to dissolve the limescale off her toilet!!!
So it can't be good for paintwork.
She also uses brown sauce to polish her brasses.

No todays paints are really tough. It sounds as though you are seeking revenge on someone, but I wouldn't advise you do it. It could be very costly if you get caught.
