I was thinking about going to college but I work full time so my option is to go to an online school such as Univ of Phoenix. I have a friend who I told this to that was downtalking online schools saying it would be a waste of my time. He said just go to a campus school.....unfortunately I don't have the option of this What do you think? Is an online school worth it?

Online is really only worth it for tech degrees. The ones that just translate to an Associates degree. They're very expensive compared to a community college though.

Don't do online for bachelors and up unless you already hold a good job and they don't care where your new degree comes from. I'm still pretty shocked that some online schools offer PhD programs.

I work full-time and am currently enrolled in a two-year transfer program at a local community college. This is my third semester, all of my classes are online, and I love it. I love the flexibility of online courses. I love being able to "go to school" anytime you want, day or night and in your pajamas if you want. If you work full-time and cannot attend seated classes then why not go this route? I have actually learned more in my online classes than I have in the seated classes I have taken in previous years because I am required to do more of the work/reading on my own time. I have taken classes like English, Algebra, Astronomy, Ecology, Music Appreciation, and History online so far. I have always been super horrible in Math but since I have been doing my classes online I actually understand a lot more now because I don't have to move on to the next subject until I am ready to move on. I can spend as much time as I need on a subject as long as I stay within my schedule and meet my deadlines. However, online classes are not for everyone. You have to be dedicated and focused on the cause. There is hardly any room for procrastination. At my school, most of my professors require you to come to campus at least once a month to take your test at the student testing center so they can be proctored. But even that's not too bad because they give you a 3 to 4 day window to take the test and the testing center stays open for a long time. You should really look into this if you're serious about getting a degree. I only have 4 more classes after this semester then I will be tranferring to a 4-year school. Good Luck.

I am considering the same thing. I think online is the way of the future.....I also think it is a great option for those of us that have many life commitments and can't devote time to going to a campus class. My thoughts are this.....ask yourself if you will truly be able to devote the time needed to the class (and find out the assignment expectations ahead of time) and make sure the reputation and accreditation of the school is secure. With those answers, I think your decision will be a much better informed and successful one. Also, without the school being accredited (usually regionally), your degree will be worthless. Hope I helped. Good luck!
