technically you can breed most mares at 1 1/2 to 2 yrs, but you should wait to breed them until they are at least 3-4 yrs old so their body can mature a bit more. Breeding a 2 yr old is like a 14yr old human. A 3-4 yr old is still not full grown, but that is usually an accepted age.
Stallions on the otherhand, can breed at pretty much any age. I know of a 6 month old that impregnanted a mare (he jumped the fence- horrible mean guy- was gelded right away afterwards). Most stallions though do not know what to do until 3-4yrs as well. One of our 3 yr old stallions actually tried nursing off of a mare that were were trying to breed him with. He didn't get what he was supposed to do until he was 5 yrs.

I believe that they are capable at the age of 3, but I wouldn't suggest breeding that young as a horse typically does not finish growing until the age of 4. The best thing would be not to breed at all, as there are so many unwanted animals in the world as it is.

Four years old is the best time to breed. I have a four year old mare I'm breeding.

No younger than 4 years old, they have mostly finished growing and developing by then and their bones are stronger.

Umm best to ask a vet. I guess it'll breed when it's ready.
