Batman, was originally referred to as The Bat-Man, and now at times as The Batman.

Real Name: Bruce Wayne
Notable Alias: Matches Malone
Aka: The Dark Knight, or the Dark Knight Detective.

Bruce created the Persona of Batman to strike fear into the hearts of the Gotham Underworld.

For a time, since the events of Zero Hour, Batman was referred to as a Urban Myth, but since War Games, he has been seen by the public and now is known by all.

In continuity in the Comics, for a time after Bruce's back was broken by Bane, Azrael (Jean-Paul Valley) took over the mantle as Batman, until he became to violent, causing Bruce t overthrow him and once again become Batman.

Also, in continuity in comics, there was another Batman, of Earth-2 that is essentially the Golden Age first appearance of Batman. He would marry his world’s Catwoman and eventually have a daughter, Helena Wayne that would be the Huntress of Earth-2. This Batman for a time was erased from continuity after Crisis on Infinite Earths, but has since been referred to again after the events of Infinite Crisis in the last storyline of the JSA comic and a tale set in Superman/Batman (27).

In the Animated Series, eventually Bruce would retire and Terry McGinnis would take over in the series Batman Beyond.

There is another Bruce Wayne, originally from Earth-3, and now a new updated version from the antimatter universe that calls himself Owlman.

Batman appears in Detective Comics, Batman, Batman Confidential, Superman/Batman, Justice League and other guest star appearances. He once was the leader of the Outsiders.

His original secret identity is Bruce Wayne. He is a descendant of the American Revolutionary War hero General “Mad” Anthony Wayne.

He has another secret identity that he uses sometimes, that of ‘Matches’ Malone. Malone was a small time crook, gambler and con man who served as a source of information. When Batman went to arrest him, he fled, then tried topull a gun and shoot Batman. But he missed, and was killed by his own ricochet. Sin he had no relatives, the authorities agreed to keep his death a secret and Batman took over his identity. He has often disguised himself as Malone, gaining information from other criminals that they would not share freely with Batman.

There are various titles which Batman has been called over the years. They include the Gotham Guardian, the Cowled Crusader, the Darknight Detective, the World’s Greatest Detective, the World’s Greatest Escape Artist (though Mister Miracle also claims that title.) With Robin, he is part of the Dynamic Duo.

He has also been called the Caped Crusader, though what he wears is technically a cowl. His cape is detachable. Superman is more properly called the Caped Crusader.

I can’t repeat the things his enemies call him. This is a family-suitable forum.
