I am a mother of four and this is the first baby that has not crawled by 10 months. He also does not try to sit up while laying down. He is very good and standing and it seems that all he want to do is stand and walk around. He gets very angry when he is on the floor. He will play for awhile and then just scream because he wants to stand up. What do I do?

DEFINITELY don't put him in a walker...it strengthens the wrong leg muscles and delays walking. You need to put him on his tummy whether it makes him mad or not....he needs to develop the muscles to roll and crawl and sit himself up. Have him do sit ups....it's important....just like you'd do sit ups...hold his legs down and have him sit up...do it a few times after each diaper change....also, lie him on his tummy then have him hand you items (strengthen his ability to lift his chest off of the floor). There are many babies that don't crawl, but there is evidence that crawling is helpful because it helps develop visual perception skills and aids them in being able to switch vision near to far (looking down at the floor and then up to objects in front of them and back down again). This is something that kids need to be able to do later in school (down at their paper, up at the board). My daughter is currently getting physical therapy and that it why I am encouraging you to work with him...she's working on the same skills.

It isn't common, but happens enough that some kids don't ever crawl. Does he go to daycare or have a lot of older cousins? This is usually seen in the younger kids in a family. Help him cruise around on the couch and other furniture and maybe get him a toy he can push while he walks. Don't put him in a walker, it teaches kids to use the wrong muscles in walking. His frustration will pass, try not to react. It is hard, but let him fight his way through this a little. If he really just melts down, help him up or distract him but don't prevent the frustration. Its the frustration that builds determination. You may try crawling around the house for a couple of days. He may think it a grand game and join you realizing its potential. Wear knee pads, and have fun with it.

You should show him the crawling position. you have to make him get on all fours and hold him there. Move his hands along with his feet and show him he can move. Eventually the pattern will stick in his brain and he will learn to crawl. Its more that likely he will get upset, but its only because its a change. Just fight through the tears and eventually he will learn how to be more mobile.

crawling is not consider a milestone in babies so don't worry.
if he wants to stand all the time get a exersaucer or walker(some parents dont like walkers) if you have something low enough try putting him close so he can try to pull up and stand on his own.

I've heard of babies who go directly to walking without crawling in between. Maybe you just got one of those. But as you are already an experienced mom, if it's worrying you I'd talk to the doctor. He might recommend having him evaluated for physical therapy or something.

Do you give the baby tummy time? Some babies just skip that step all together. My daughter didnt crawl till after she started walking. But just to be safe, I would consult your pediatrician.

dont stress. if there is nothing medically wrong with your child he will do it in his own time. you may help strengthen his hips by pulling him up to crwling position and teaching him to rock back and forth, other than that. he shouldnt have any expectations as a babe. let him get into school before you do that. my nephew didnt walk until he was 19 months old. hes his own fella

he'll learn eventually. some babies learn stuff later than others. its not that serious. when he starts crying show him how he should get up and he'll take it from there.
