A 66 kilometer pan of glacier drifted off Elsmere Island some 70 latitude North, current temperature supposed to be about -28 high in normal years past last few years -36 to -41 highs not low. Top it off with no one paying attention to globel warming, what do you care?

If for no other reason, I would care because I have a natural curiosity about the world, and like to find out how it works.

We are currently in an inter-glacial period in geologic time. Never before have we had ice at both poles. Inter-glacial environments are characterized by warm moist periods, while periglacial periods of very cold climates exist as far as the middle latitudes during ice advances. In North America, in the last million years, there have been 10 identified glacial advances and retreats. Think about this - a warming climate causes glaciers to melt, thus retreat. When they retreat enough to cause open water in the polar regions, it snows more on the polar caps, causing ice and glacier growth, and we head into another glacial ice advance. Global cooling results.

Certain sceintists base their global warming predictions on short term data. We have only been able to measure temperature for just over 100 years and accurate atmospheric gasses for even less. They plug these formulas into mathematical models and doomsday predictions result. If these models are so great, then why can't they get weather predictions accurate more than three days out?

The earth is over 6 billion years old. Its environmental systems are so complex, there aren't any computers big enough to do accurate modelling.

Want a true picture of global climate changes, ask a geologist. The very basis of our profession is studying environments, and environmental change. And not just over the last 100 years.

Bottom line:

Is the climate changing? - Constantly
Is the climate getting warmer? - For the moment
Did man cause it? - Possibly, but a minimal impact at most
Can man stop it? - No

Although I DO believe man is having an impact on the environment, I have to say that scientists have discovered no less than 6 ice ages and global warming periods before man ever saw the face of the Earth! It would be nice to know we could slow it from commin but its commin whether we like it or not!
AMEN TOM! We puny Earthlings aint seen nuthin yet!

I like to study the earth because I am interested in the fact that the Earth is a self-correcting system that has been constantly adjusting itself for the last 4.6 Billion Years. We are nothing more than what the dinosaurs or the early mammals were in previous geologic eras, and we will be extinct too.

Im sure with the way the weather has been lately that people are paying attention to it ,they just dont want it to be an issue.
