Okay, so there’s this girl, Jamie that I liked in school. I told her how I felt, but for 2 years after I told her up to when school ended, though we talked about other things on occasion, she didn’t mention about how I liked her. So, 5 years have passed since I last saw or heard from her. I sent her a short letter last week basically just telling her happy birthday, as it will be later this month. I mentioned how I liked her in the past, but only as reminder of who I was. Anyway, I sent the letter to her mother, so she could forward it to her. I got an email from her mother 2 days ago. She was nice enough, thanking me for remembering Jamie’s birthday and that she will forward it to her. As I said, 2 days have passed, and I haven’t gotten a reply back from Jamie. It depends where she lives and how busy she is, but what if she has gotten it? We last saw each other on good terms and I didn’t say anything weird in the letter. I don’t understand why she wouldn’t reply back?

I suppose I should just wait another week or so, but I'm viewing this question more as a 'what if'. I was thinking if I didn't get a reply back from her within, lets say a month, I would email her mother back and ask what's going on. I don't want her to feel like she has to reply, but I would appreciate it if she would.

Some people don't feel pressure to respond to mail/cards. Don't take it personally, it may just be her way. Keep in mind mail can be lost too. Plus, you haven't spoken for 5 years, she may feel a little awkward with talking/writing to you. I don't reccomend asking her mother if she sent it or not, it comes across as...edging on stalkerish (in my opinion). Remember, mail takes a while to send, read, and write, (people have lives) and her mother may not send it right away. Don't worry about it.

Give it a little, it's only been 2 days. I get letters all the time most of which I dont reply to for atleast 3-5 days. Maybe she is just busy right now. By her not mentioning anything about the way you feel, maybe she didnt feel the same way for you. Maybe she would rather just be your friend than anything more. By avoiding the subject she doesnt have to say anything that might hurt you. In other words she probably didnt feel the same way for you as you did for her but she didnt want to say anything that would possibly hurt you or ruin the friendship you two have.

seeing as i am a girl and this is from my perspective....

most girls dont throw things out the door....especially if you were on good terms....

she may be worried that your feelings still stand ....and that is the only reason you are talking to her....

call her mother again and call her up....explain that the feelings dont stand and that you have a new life but miss her as a friend....(dont make it sound like you only feel bad for not talking to her this long and thats why your calling....)

but give it a few days.....i know from texas to utah it takes a week.... and thats a butt load of miles....

be patient....

Let's face it! You waited too long. By now she may see you as a looser. Get with it and get on with your life. There are lots of girls out there.
