Lip gloss doesn't do anything but make your lips shiny. Lip balm and chapstick hydrate your lips so they won't be chapped. I recommend Chapstick, Burt's Bees, Vitagloss by Bonnebell and Smackers(these are actually flavored). These can be found at Wal-mart and Target.
There are SOME lip glosses that also keep lips from getting chapped. It has to say something on the package though. Look for "vitamins A & E" or "keeps lips soft" or something like that.

Well first thing is that everyone's lips get dry and I don't know where you live but if it's cold there like it is in New York, you are definitely boudn to get chapped lips. First off, I have to say: DON"T USE Chapstick BECAUSE it will work temporarily but within a few minutes, you're lips will be chapped again and you will have to keep on reapplying again and again. I would recommend you try Aquaphor. It can be used on lips, arms, hands, feet, your're entire body. It works great for chapped and dry skin or lips. I used it just one day and my lips felt SO much better and my doctor was the one who recommended it after she saw how many times I kept reapplying my chapstick at the appointment. Here's a picture of what it looks like. I got mine from Eckerd pharmacy for $7 (the smaller bottle- 1.75 oz) You can also get it at Target, CVS, Walmart, KMart, Walgreens, i think at any grocery store too. It's in the LOTION aisle.

It's also possible you are chronically dehydrated. If you aren't getting enough water (and drinking too much stuff with caffine which is a diuretic- coffe, tea, soda) it shows up in dried chapped lips. Use a good chapstick after showering, when the lips are moist and try drinking more water.

actually if u are constantly putting chapstick on it chaps your lips even more. The best thing to do other than not licking them is to just leave them alone and try not to eat a lot of salt.Salt worsens them.

Alright, so everyday before bed you should put some sort of lip balm on, but not lip gloss, it will dry out your lips. Take an old toothbrush and rub in small circles to get rid of dead skin cells. Then use moisturizing lotion and rub it in. Then put on your lip balm, then your lip gloss.

Everytime my lips get dry/flaky I take a toothbrush and I lightly brush my lips and then I wipe them w/ a wet washcloth and then I apply Carmex or plain vaseline. Remember, your lips need moisture at night too!!
