How do I maximize my chances of getting a job through online job portals?

FYI, Am a Fresher looking for a job in SW / IT industry and have registered myself in the major online job portals. Besides that, how can i use the internet for increasing my chances of getting a job?

Follow up however you can using whatever infomation you can get like phone number, email, sending a physical copy of your resume, faxing your resume to the appropriate person, etc. Imagine how many inquiries a company gets just through email. There are most likely few that follow up with them. Follow up as frequently as possible w/o annoying the company, or until you get an answer. Ask how the hiring process goes...including time frames etc.
