Do NOT use lotion, as many will suggest. That increases the risk of infection.
You may just need to use more lube. Also, this may sound gross, but massage (or have the other person massage) the area before starting. It will "loosen things up."

Finding fingers first
A caring guy starts slowly with his finger until his woman feels comfortable. Once she feels at ease with that, he'll apply plenty of lube and a condom when he ultimately penetrates her.
Rubbing the cheeks
If there's anything that can help women relax and feel at ease, it's when a man rubs their butt cheeks softly, spreading them and then squeezing them together. Don't just head for the hole and disregard the rest of her body; it's there for the taking... so take it.
Massaging her back, holding her waist
Like I said before, giving the rest of her body sincere attention while penetrating her will work to both your advantage. Her rectal muscles will relax so that you could enter her more easily, and you'll enjoy the tight-yet-fitting entry, as well as her smooth skin.
Pain is sometimes pleasurable
In all honesty, why do you think women even let you near their behind if they know it's going to hurt? Because you've been begging? Because she thinks that her vagina's as loose as a porn star trying to set a record for the most partners in one night? No, it's because she wants to know how it feels too. She knows that pain is inevitable, but that's part of the thrill of it all.

I find that you have to take it *really* slow. Start with something smaller, like a finger or a device. I find that the size and girth of my partner makes a difference (too big can never feel really comfortable). If it hurts STOP. And don't try numbing gels--they will only cause you to not stop when you should (if you can't feel pain, you can't know if something's wrong and you don't want to tear).
Also, biologically, you are less tight after an orgasm. Have him get you off first, that might do the trick.

If you have ever been to or heard of the "toy parties" which is nothing but erotic toys and items of a useful nature or you might visit an adult novalty store, then they have a desensitizing lotion that has benzocain in it. Benzocain is a numbing agent. I think one product is called "Anal Ease". Apply it about 10 minutes before Mr. Happy knocks on the back door and it should help alot.

are you talking about anal sex? you need to stretch your sphincter first. fingers, butt plugs, dildos... that sort of thing, slowly work your way up to being able to take in something as big as an erect penis. THEN you lube up...
No stretching, well imagine someone forcing you to do the splits all the way down, that's what you're doing to your anus.
