Its sounds like you want something a little more upscale than a cake from a grocery store. I don't trust them anyways. Try one of the bakeries in greektown I think there are 3 of them right on the same street as the Greektown casino. The pastries in there always look awesome but I'm not sure if they do whole cakes. There is also a bakery around Indian Village called the Avalon. Everything is organic so it might be expensive but even if you don't get the cake there they might be able to reccommend a cake decorator to you or call some fancier restaurants for reccomendations.

I don't know in Detroit but around Detroit you could try Krogers or farmer Jacks, or if you are near Westland you could try Le Cakery
