why do we have to do homework?

homework is practice. if you don't practice, you will not develop good study habits. in other words, you need to exercise your brain!!

It has two functions: It allows you to practice skills that you learned in class that day, and it also allows your teachers to assess your level of understanding and comprehension of the assigned material.
This is also why you really should do your homework the same night that it is assigned.

I suppose a third function would be that it also allows the teacher to provide information on topics that there wasn't time to learn about in class or will be vital for background information on the next topic. This is more the case when you get to high school and beyond, particularly in college where you might only have the class for three hours in the entire week (as opposed to the five hours you get in high school).

we go to school to learn and we take tests to show that we have learned. so the point of homework is not only help us practice what we should have learned in school but to also to teach us about deadlines which are very important in the world. this way you dont go into someplace with the papers they requested several weeks ago and what ever it was that you wanted is no longer available to you.
