Could be a river birch, white birch, paper bark pine or a sycamore.

Birch trees have white bark, some of it peels like paper, but I never really thought of it as soft.

It is probably white birch. We had them growing where I lived as a kid. They are a soft wood so not good for firewood. But in Pennsylvania the tree is used to make Birch Beer. Here is a link that shows you what white birch looks like.

If it is a definite white colour probably Birch. Botanical name Betula alba - have a look on the net and see if this is the one. There are all sorts of birches in different colours.

Most likely it is a Birch tree----probably not a paper tree they are'nt really white---also it could be a ash tree they are very light skined---What do the leaves look like?

It could be paperbark some people use it likr tin foil and wrap food in it put it in a underground oven. give the food a good taste and also keep da food from burning. try it. its ONO!!
