I canceled my True.com membership in April 2006. I just noticed on my statement for my credit card that I just was charged for the subscription fee again (good thing I learned to use online banking or I wouldn't have caught it. I am away at school and my statements are mailed to my house a few hours away.
I called the company to ask why I was suddenly being charged so long after canceling my subscription. They informed me that they didn't know why I was being charged, but that I had been charged monthly for nearly a year despite my service having been canceled. In spite of this mistake they claim to be only able to refund me for the past 2 months, rather than the full amount of the unauthorized charges.
Is this legal? Because I feel like they scammed me and I'm not sure what to do. Has this happened to anyone else? Please help.

What proof do you have that the subscription was canceled? If you have solid records, check you local ombudsman, or your local TV station 'Help Guy'.

Had the same type problem when I switched internet service providers; since I had paid annually, they said I hadn't cancelled and nearly a year passed before I caught it. Fought it hard, but finally gave up and paid when they started sending collection agencies, etc. and basically threatening to screw up my otherwise perfect credit rating. So now I try to screw up their reputation by word of mouth. Basically, pay now; get even later! You've just got to watch these outfits and make SURE they've actually cancelled you when you tell them to!

They scammed me too. I thought I had met the woman of my dreams online but she turned out to be a transtesticle.
