For most women, yes it will. I've lost all my pregnancy weight from both babies without dieting or exercising, and I attribute all of it to breastfeeding. There are women, though, who claim it did nothing for them. Of course, I'm not sure what the variables are -- maybe the ones who claim it didn't work only did it for a few months or something. I did it for 11 months with my first child and I'm still breastfeeding my 14-month old child. Breastfeeding uses an extra 500 calories per day, so the idea is that you can use up stored fat. See the links below for more info, plus a post-partum weight loss calculator (which by the way takes into account whether or not you are breastfeeding).

Yes it does, I lost extra weight during breastfeeding I was eating heaps but still lost weight. With my first I was back to normal in 2 weeks and with my second it was about 1 month When I breastfeed I always become underweight for some reason. I eat healthy and extra for baby but the weight just comes off and stays off. Although now I have stopped I have put the weight back on and now I cant stop it. lol.
Everyones body is different, and so our bodies react differently. So not everyone has great weight loss from breastfeeding and it can take longer than others. You never know until it happens.

Yes!!!

Since breast feeding puts hundreds of calories straight into the baby every day. But of course, you get hungrier and eat more to make up for that fact. So it would depend on how much more you were eating... as well as what you were eating.

I have heard it does but believe me-just being a mommy burns calories faster than anything I've ever done. I am back to pre baby size on schedule-nine months on and nine months off. ; ) Good luck!

Yes it does!! Breastfeeding burns calories!! And you need to drink lots of water in order to produce more milk...so this helps with weight loss too! I have 3 kids....I only breastfed my last...wish I would have done all 3!! It is such a bonding experience!!
Good luck...and enjoy!!

Also...after you wean the baby...you need to cut back on calories...you will gain weight if you keep eating the way you did while breastfeeding!

Yes, breastfeeding burns a lot of calories. The extra 5-8 lbs you gain in body fat during pregnancy actually is an energy store for when you do breastfeed. You will burn more calories while breastfeed so the fat will burn off. Yes. So true. Just yet another marvelous perk of breastfeeding.
You should do it.
Good luck!
