on this car it has an overhead cam.and they are notorious for the holes that shoot oil on the cam to become plugged. it's not to bad a job to pull the tappet cover and check or fix this. a shop should be able to do this for 2or 3 hours labor.

Sticky lifters are caused by dirty oil. An oil change won't help cuz the varnish is cooked on by now. You need an oil additive that cleans the parts and quiets the lifters. After you do this then change the oil and don't let it go so long between changes.

It really sounds as if you might need to start your vehicle on a program of changing the oil and filter every 3 thousand miles religiously, as a part of a scheduled maintenance program, even if that's all you do...

Once you change the oil and filter, it should quiet down but it's possible something has happened to the valve / lifter system but I don't know, more than one of my cars tick but they're as old as yours, too I just keep up on them best I can, idk...

i would say you could have a broken ring and thats where the oil is going, and the piece of ring thats broke is at the top of the cylinder and the piston is hitting it every time it comes to the top, hence you have a ticking noise. i am afraid its a shop job my friend, good luck brian
