Everytime I get a bonsai tree I do my best to keep it alive. I've bought books and researched the internet. Can anybody out there keep them alive? If so, what have you done?

All the light and water you provide for it may be useless. FIRST you have to determine if the tree is an indoor or an outdoor tree. 99% of the time a bonsai dies it is because it is to be kept outside, and the owner is keeping it inside. NEXT, lets determine the species. In order to do that, let me know where you live, and send me a photo or description of the foliage to:
wchoat@american-bonsai.com and then we can go from there.
Please repeat your question so I can relate to it. Also you may want to check the Bonsai Care page of my website:

Bought books & researched on the net and then they died :-)
Then I started just paying attention to the plant - same as you do with any others. I think the largest factor in success is watering - bonsai's don't have large root systems for obvious reasons - so they can't hold much water. You also need to make sure they get nutrients - again, because they don't have the infrastructure to store nutruents or water. Be careful with fertilizers - bonsai can be burned easily - you have to dilute.
