if you get straight A's in school and are in all honors classes, does that mean you're officially a geek or nerd? even if you don't act like one and are completely normal?

a smart person is a smart person and should not be labelled or made fun of for being smart. i hate when pople call peole nerds and geeks because they are smart.

since when was intelligence a bad thing?

Well..that sounds like me. Good grades, gifted classes, in the "smart" and "hard" college courses.

And, well...even though *I* think I'm completely normal and balanced and have a kick a** sense of humor, I DO still have some "nerd" qualities even if I DON'T want to admit it to myself. I carry a scientific calculator, a ruler, and pencils when I go to class EVERY day. I like to talk about science stuff, which bores most other people.

Anyway, look at it THIS way....I have a button on my backpack that pretty much sums it up. It says: "Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.--Bill Gates" So, when someone calls me a nerd or a geek, I take it as a compliment. Basically they're trying to insult intelligence. So, who REALLY looks stupid?

No way! I am one of the smartest people in my class-and one of the popular ones! Certainly not a geek or nerd...Sometimes some smart people are seen as geeks or nerds by the way they dress, too, not just smartness. It all depends on who you are, and the way things work at your school.

People are haters. Just because you are smart does not mean that you are a geek or a nerd. I don't know who you are talking about, if you are about yourself, If youare I would say keep up with the good grades. You are the one that is going to end up with the good paying job.

Not at all. Being a nerd is a mentality, not necessarily a reflection of intelligence. For example, I knew many girls and guys at school who were smart (like me) but were not nerds, like I was. Alternatively, there are plenty of idiots that act like geeks.

I'm a nerd in eighth grade. Geeks lack sophistication. Nerds are the people who get straight As and are smart.Regulars are in the middle.

thats a good question. i look at it like this-nerds are the type of ppl who play nerdy pc games all day yet make straight A's in class, they use words such as "PWNT", "OWnage", and etc. and geeks are the kind of person you see walking around in school with huge glasses and its so easy to point your finger at him and laugh or just trip him (i dont) geeks are USUALLY the person that you will end up working for when youre older.

No. A very smart person is a very smart person...unless he or she acts like a geek or a nerd.
