I have one now. It was pretty painful having it inserted, but it wasn't unbearable. If you've had a child before it makes it less painful. I can't feel it at all. Well, I mean I can feel it with my fingers when I check the positioning. My husband has complained that he's felt it quite a few times. It can't be too bad for him, because I've asked him a few times to take me and have it removed and he still hasn't. LOL! Overall, I really don't like it. I seem to have worse cramps during my monthly, more discharge, longer periods, and randomn spotting. I've had it for 5 months now, so it's still possible that my period could stop, but it hasn't yet. I keep it in, because I really could not remember to take my bc pills. So if you have a problem with other types of bc or problems remembering to take bc, then go for it. If not, stick with the pills or something else.

I LOVE MY IUD!!!! I will not lie and say it was not uncomfortable when I had it inserted. I have never had children so it did hurt more but I love it. I spotted for about 3 moths but after that I have had no periods. My parent does feel it at times but it does not bother him. After receiving the IUD I had cramps (like period camps) for about 2-4 weeks and then I was fine. I had to get an the IUD b/c I forgot to take the pill on a regular basis and you save hundreds of dollars a year. There is a program that will pay for your IUD called the Arch foundation. They will provide you with a free IUD (income permitted) but you will have to pay for the insertion. Most doctor office will give a discount rate or do it for free. If you do decide to do this I do advise you to take 800mg of Motrin 20 min before you appointment, and usually the gyno will rx a pill that will loosen your cervix to relieve some of the pain. Now there is a change that you can get an infection but it is very slim.

I got a Mirena IUD last April. I had, had a different type after my daughter was born in 1991 and it wasn't too bad getting it put in. However, this last time was unbearably excrutiatingly painful. Just when I thought I couldn't bear the pain anymore, it got a lot worse!! Afterwards I was given an Advil for the pain. If you get one, my advice is to take a couple of painkillers BEFORE the procedure. I'm glad I had it done now but at the time I was hysterical with pain. By the way, MOST people don't feel it as badly as I did. The doctor was really surprised by my reaction (crying and freaking out).

I have the Mirena IUD.......I love it. I didn't have any pain having it put in some women do have cramping. My husband can not feel it. I haven't had any side effects from it. As an added bonus I no longer have heavy painful periods. You do have spotting off and on for the first few months but it isn't really that bad.

the mariena is better than the copper iud. i have her too many bad things from the cooper like heavy bleeding, cramping, pain from it and so on. the mariena getting inserted felt kinda like a rough papsmear. it is a little uncomfy but hey way less than having a kid. i did have break through bleeding for the first 3 months or so, but now i dont have any.

I have on and love it!!! It did hurt going in but take Advil 20 mins before and that should help a little bit. I don't even know it is there and my husband can't feel it either. I think it is a good the best thing on earth. :)

When I had one put in, I was praying I would die to be relieved of the pain. Afterwards, my husband could feel the iud. I got rid of it quickly.
