how do i get the hair downloads to come up in the game i put them in my sims 2 folder named it downloads and my downloaded items went in but not the hair downloads

When you are in the part to put hair on your sim are you clicking on the custom icon, the star or snowflake looking thing to the right of the hair color selectors. If you are looking there and there is nothing there did you check if the hair requires a mesh? If it needs a mesh you have to download the mesh from whereever it is at before the hair will come through.
