Is it because there a box of trix that only suckers buy?? Why do they try and race our American Muscle cars? Even with a turbo on that 800 pound go-kart, they still cant keep up with my stock Trans-Am!! I think "wanna-be" when I see guys driving them like race cars. Hey, how much H.P do they get with that 4 foot peice of trunk plastic sticking up in the air??

Actually I hate to disappoint you, but in a recent show on the TV network "Speed", there was a test between a Honda Fit, a VW Golf GTI and a Ford Mustang. The three were widely diverse in stock form with the Mustang V8 being fastest in the 1/4 mile,, the GTI being fastest in the road race course, and the Fit being the wimpy econo box. Then they had teams modify them with a budget of $1,500.00. The results were amazing. The GTI smoked the Mustang in the 1/4 mile. The Fit blew both of them away on the road race course. The American Muscle car came in second in points for three heats, 1/4 mile, four lap road race, and skid pad.
Horsepower will propel you in a straight line, but it takes handling to get you around corners.

Define American Muscle car. I have a 4 cylinder turbocharged car that would take your stock trans-am. My car just happens to be buit by Mitsubishi, yet was built in the US (probably with more American parts thatn your T/A). Not to take away from V8 power, but I've seen quite a few 4 bangers blow away "suped up" V8s. As far as the handling goes, my (American made) Mitsubishi would still take your T/A.

Maybe because first off: the cars arent generally sports cars that people modify.
Second off, you dont hear anyone bashing supras, 300zxs, STis, EVOs, etc etc.
Third, Not all races are in a straight line. Lets see your trans am take me in my STi on a road course. And while not japanese, try to take an elise (although it is powered by a 190 hp toyota engine) on a twisty road. It wont happen.
fourth, HP isnt everything. Feel, steering and brake response, comfort, seating position, interior quality, and many other things factor into a car, not just HP.
fifth, youre an idiot.

I raced rally a loooong time ago (how long? I had a DATSUN!!)
Even my old junker ricer racer would kick a TAs butt on a road course.
Racing in a straight line is totally boring to me, I'm not into torque, I'm into handling.
