actually Fred is right oddly enough. The Eagles fans were unhappy because they went on a late season winning streak. The team started off the season 0-11, and looked poised to have the top pick in the draft. Then they won two consecutive games, beating the Lions and Saints, before closing the season with a loss to the Vikings. That left them at 2-12. Unfortunately, the second win gave them a better record than the Bills (1-12-1), so the Bills ended up with the top pick in the draft - OJ Simpson.

Oddly enough, the Bills lone win that season was over the eventual Super Bowl champion NY Jets. That was the same season as Namath's "guarantee"

-------------------------

A crowd of 54,535 showed in a snowstorm that Dec. 15 day at Franklin Field to watch the last-place Eagles finished off a 2-12 season with a loss to Minnesota.

The book says that team owner Jerry Wolman had "dismantled a strong, proud franchise" and hired Joe Kuharich as coach and general manager. Kuharich, who inspired the "Joe Must Go" slogan, traded Hall of Fame quarterback Sonny Jurgensen to Washington for Norm Snead.

At halftime, there was supposed to be a Christmas pageant. Then there was too much snow and muck for a float to parade around the field. Instead, according to the book, a 19-year-old fan wearing a Santa suit and fake beard in the stands was recruited to jog onto the field between two columns of cheerleaders.

The authors don't deny boos were heard and that snowballs were tossed. Are they saying Santa had it coming?

"Santa had it coming for a different reason actually," says Macnow. "Santa was a surrogate that day for Joe Kuharich and Jerry Wolman and Norm Snead. The poor kid just happened to be representing the frustrations."

I grew up in the north Philly suburbs, graduating high school in '73. The Philly fans are notorious for their ruthlessness. Michael Jack Schmidt, arguably one of the best third basemen in the National League, was booed constantly in Philly, as was Steve "Lefty" Carlton. Check the stats of these two guys; neither deserved what they got in Philly. But those are the Philly fans. They expect the best, all the time. There's a thin line between their loving a player and booing them. Why should Santa Claus get any better treatment? The Easter Bunny was also booed at the Vet. Rumor even has it that the crowd at the Vet yelled up at The Great Walenda (the tightrope walker), to "jump" as he walked the wire across the Vet. Why did Eagles fans snowball Santa Claus? Why do Raider fans wear monsters costumes?
Because they can!

It became a trifling journey contained in the top zone. It became a snowy day in Philly. A fan team sitting on one aspect of the top zone had a guy gown as Santa and hand out presents to them from the field before the game. even as "Santa" became accomplished, he took the hat and beard off, opened the Santa jacket and walked to his seat on the different aspect of the top zone. on the way, his friends began throwing snowballs at him. Then about ten different followers threw snowballs. even as he were given to his seat, snow ball throwing stopped. it truly is it. the clicking blew it up some distance out of percentage.

Philadelphia is "The City of Brotherly Love".
EXCEPT on sundays during football season.
Eagle fans are notorious for being the most obnoxious, rude, unsportsman like fans in the league.
They applaude when opposing players get badly hurt and act like they are the kings of the universe.
And to them, their universe is their stadium.
It's a place where they don't recognize civilized, decent behavior and can do whatever rude, crude and disrespectful behavior they want.
