The best and easiest way to do this is VNC which is a piece of p1ss to set up and get running. The only question is whether your school network admin has this kind of thing blocked or not, it's probably worth checking with them before you bother trying to get this working.

When I was attending school and needed to access my files, I just bought a little USB (never hung it around my neck though!) and travelled with my files that way. Best of all it's fast and can be used with practically any computer, even at the library!

There are several ways of doing remote access. Links to a few free programs for doing so can be found at http://www.t3technet.com/alternates.html
You should check with the network admin or appropriate support personnel as to what the policy is and protocols suitable for this. A remote connection is a network security issue and typically such traffic will be firewalled by default.

You know, if you JUST need to access your files, and don't need to actually CONTROL anything on your computer at home, Avvenu does a pretty good job. It lets you get to all your files via any web browser:

There are many programs available that will allow you to do this. GoToMyPC.com gives you a free 30 day trial to access your computer from anywhere.

I second the recommendation for VNC. There's three different implementations: RealVNC, UltraVNC, and TightVNC. RealVNC costs money.

So I recommend UltraVNC, which IMO works out better than TightVNC.

I could but it wouldnt do you any good unless the school admin allowed it which I highly doubt!
