Where is a good place to go for good maternity pictures?

Did you do them yourself?

I think we might go to the beach and take some there on top of going to a studio.

Any ideas or advice?

My husband took all the photos of me pregnant and the ones that I have I love. The key I think is natural light, so the beach would be a great place ot take photos.

I didn't but now I kind of wish I had some professional photos taken. If you have the money I would say do it.

Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy

I try to avoid cameras as well but my family insists on taking pictures every week to see how big I've grown. Natural light is very good, especially soft light to soften your features so you don't have rugged looks. They use hard light for guys for that reason. Save the professional photos for the baby and you!
Also, if you have a digital camera and it has the little extras on it, try them out. Sepia and black & white tones look great if you think your face looks a bit redder from the extra blood volume of pregnancy. I have people asking me all the time if I'm okay because my cheeks are so red, which they were even before i got pregnant.
Have some fun with your camera before spending the time and money in a studio.

If you have a friend who takes pictures, that might be the easiest route. I'm beginning to gather the equipment to do maternity and engagement shoots. My personal favorite is belly shots against a solid black background. If you want to try this yourself, you'll need a large black piece of fabric (white would also be good) and some way to suspend it for a backdrop. You'll also need a camera with a self-timer. I love partially nude shots - where the mother covers her breasts with her arms and shows off her great belly. It's such a beautiful picture of pregnancy - but admittedly not everyone is up for that.

Other places to go would be anywhere that is special to you. Next to solid backdrops, I really prefer outdoor shots.

I know I am not a woman but I am a photographer who offers maternity photography, in-fact we offer a program called "miracle of life" which is a maternity, newborn, 3mo, 6mo,9mo, 1year photography sessions and then a hardbound book containing a stylized layout of the sessions. All my clients are thrilled that they had professional photos done to have for the future. This is the most beautiful time in a woman's life don't let it slip away because of modesty or shyness. By the way my studio is named Studio Foto and our web address is http://www.Studiofoto.com.

I'm a photographer, so I'm taking the photos myself. I took my first one over the weekend. Hubby and I got all dressed up to go out to dinner and I took one in our hotel room. I think it's a great idea to go to the beach. I'm planning to take photos during special times with my husband, so he can remember when the photos were taken too. Going to a studio can be really good too, they'll get a lot of cool photos for you. Plus, I think when baby's a child, he or she will get a kick (no pun intended) out of seeing mom with big baby belly, no matter what the photo.

Before I got pregnant I wanted to get them done at the beach and in the studio, but I have so many stretch marks and lumpy bumpy bits I decided not to! I wish I had though

maternity pictures are amazing! i love them! at the beach would be cool, i think if you get them done professionally you'll get the quality you want instead of doing them yourself.

I was 8 months pregnant and we did Christmas pics and I feel that it is a good thing to do because it shows you care about the baby before it is born. I went to walmart at their portrait studio, cheap, professional, and nice backgrounds.

i take pictures all the time now that i am pregnant you can have a friend or signifigant other take them for you anywhere you want and do some poses... it is very beautiful and i personally take them to show my children when they get older. take the yourself... don't waste money on something like that let it be natural and have someone you love and trust take them...
