I have been on Social Security for about 3 years due to illness. I can not work. I would like to go back to school for a degree in Criminal Justice. (I believe I can work, after a few surgerys) It will take about 4-5 years to complete what I want to do for a degree. Is there any hope of help for me from Soc/Security? I have a lengthy history in working in Law Enforcement. Sure would like to take it further.

lETLet me start by asking is SSI the only income that your are receiving? If so then you could be eligible for your tuition to be waived due to low income. Also there is a service called IHSS (in hone support services) that might be able to help you with you day –2-day task (like laundry, meal preparation, & general duties). Their number is 916-874-9805. There are plenty of grants and low interest loans out there for disabled people.

If you can qualify as disabled for social security purposes? If so, you can receive social security disability income.
