Canada is truly what a country should be or aspire too. They seem much more free, realistic, progressive. Canada puts a real value on freedom, while other countries are restricting it.

Simple, because of Malpractice Suites , and the legal age for women is 18 YRS. Who in Canada pays for this to be done? People some times would like a second opinion about any kind of Surgery. Pills can interact with each other if the person does not tell the doctor what they take. At 14yrs of age you are still a minor and your parents and your doctorr should talk about this . The paenets should have an open conversation wiith their daughter,

While teenagers do have quite a bit of independence, they still rely on their parents for many things including food, money, and a place to live. If your parents are paying for the pills, they should be able to decide if you take them or not. Canada's socialist soceity allows for cheaper medical care, which may be one of the reason teens are offered the opportunity to explore surgeries and medications at an earlier age. Most importantly, though, hopefully teens should be able to discuss with their parents the concerns they have about their health, and hopefully together, the two can reach a solution where both get what they want.

Because in the US the parents are legally responsible for a 14 yr old teen. Since the parents are held liable for the behavior of the teen it seems reasonable that the parents have some say in how the teen chooses to behave.

You could petition the courts to declare the teen as "emancipated" then the teen can make ALL decisions as well as accept all the responsibilites of being an adult.

Not if you are a minor. This isn't Canada. You only have right to make decisions and care for your own body once you become a legal adult, which is 18, I think in most states.

Besides, what are you doing that you need medical attention and you wouldn't want your parents to know?

People are taking the rights of parents away. The Liberals are the ones who created legal abortion for teens without parental consent, Liberals created emancipation for teen children from their parents, Liberals created CPA (Child Protection Agency), and I know for a fact, quite a few families are being threatened by them because of false reports, about abuse that never happened, Liberals created political correctness, which is more than wrong. You probably know THAT story, so I won't get into it. Yes, children have rights, but not the right to disobey their parents, while they are under the age of 18. That law seems to be being ignored lately. And people want to know why we have so much crime, under-age pregnancies? All these reasons are why! Parents aren't allowed to touch, or teach their children right from wrong anymore!

because at 14 your not an adult and it should be the parents right to know what is going on in there child's life whether it be an abortion or pregnancy medical bill or birth control teens shouldn't care if the parents know about there medical history unless they have something to hide.

BTW you are not caring for your body if you are going to different doctors to get prescriptions to sell as drugs, or if you are getting an abortion because you dont want to tell your parents your pregnant or getting plastic surgery because you think you are fat.

- I think if you are old enough and smart enough you should make your own decisions and pay your own bills and buy your food and clothes and to hell with the parents. After all, what are they good for once you pop out of the womb ,but to give you everything you want and keep their mouths shut? Get real. Decision - making comes with maturity and a fourteen year old is a teenager, in the process of growing up, not an adult who could survive in the world without their parents help. Stop listening to the idiots and start being a dutiful child until you can provide for yourself. Independence comes with age and maturity.

And Canada is a bastion of perfection?

Parents have rights to protect and administer their minors lives for a reason. Minors are not mature enough mentally or emotionally for those kinds of decisions without the guidance of a responsible adult who has the education and life experience to add to the decision making that a minor does not yet possess.

No, it is not bad. Most teens (even those in Canada) worldwide are not mature enough to make the right choice all the time. And, healthcare is one area where the right choice needs to be made every time.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it but, in Canada healthcare is free. In the US the kids are on their parents policies and the parent would have access to the treatment bills anyway.

I was a pregnant teen, and I didn't tell my mom anything until I was ready. I believe pregnancy is the only medical condition in which a teen can opt to leave the parent's in the dark.
