I don't want a bunch of pop singing over the music. Good, strong rhythms with a positiive feel to them.

Some examples of stuff I already use: Gabrielle Roth, Professor Trance & The Energizers, Nomad.

Both Amazon and Napster provide recommendations based on searches on stuff I already have, but I still feel like I'm jumping blindly if I buy any of the ideas that result.

for a first impression you can download a bunch of trance mixes for free. i think the mixes of DJ Doboy might meet your taste, especially the ones of the Trancequility series. i also like the ones of the Vocal Edition series.
2 special mixes i can also recommend are the "helium" and the "hydrogen" mix (they are somewhere in the middle of the following site).

the answerer above is right to mention DI.fm (i'm a listener of DI = digitally imported for several years now).

A suggestion? If there is a song that you really like, but you want just the music without the lyrics being sung, check out some karaoke sites.

As far as dance I only went as far as ballet, and there I used a lot of Enya and classical compositions.

Try listening to http://di.fm/ free internet radio.

About half the time the stuff on there meets my standards for instrumental electronica (Hybrid, Astral Projection, classic Way Out West...just to name a few)...and about 99% of the internet radio and music services I've seen don't.

The best part...you find out about musicians you've never heard of...and they provide direct links to purchase full DJ sets and albums. It's a huge asset to anyone into underground music scene.

emusic.com has tons of really good music in the electronica department. The only down fall is that sometimes you have to search alot of music to find something that really hits you. I recommend it if you are into looking for somethin "new"
