Yes, Persephone was stolen to the realm of death/underworld by Hades to be his wife and a queen of the dead, then she can always return upon the Earth for half a year and be Kore, the Maid, in the spring and summer. Her mother is Demeter, the goddess of earth, and her beloved daughter´s absence causes her to grief and that makes fall and winter.

The story of Persephone... she was Demeter's daughter. Hades fell in love her because he was hit by one of Cupid's arrow. He kidnapped her and made her Queen of the Underworld. Her mother reacted by bringing winter to Earth. Fortunately, Persephone was returned to her mother, but she had to go back to the underworld for 3 months because she ate several pomegranate seeds.
