I absolutely love working night shift. I work 7p-7a, 7 days on, 7 days off. It's wonderful. Day shift to me is just mass chaos; there are more people, more confusion, more bosses, less time to just relax.

I worked mid night shift for a year and it was really tough on me. I was single then, luckily, because my schedule was thrown off. Usually, I got off at 7 am and drove home. There, I was still wired from drinking coffee to be able to stay awake during the night, so that I couldn't sleep right away. But I didn't want to do much else either. Slept from about 11 am on for a good eight hours. Now it was evening and my sleep was fitful because of outside noises. I got up, showered and didn't feel like doing much then. Back to work and so on. I'm a night person but not one who stays up all night. So I switched to 3-11 shift instead.

Let me say first off that if you are not a night person, working the graveyard shift is not going to be easy at first. It takes some getting use to. Exactly what kind of job is it? Is it security? I did graveyard with that career and it was not worth it. Not only did I have to adjust but there were a lot of sneaky things going on at my job because of the shift? Bottom line, anyone can give you advice according to their experiences but you know what you could put up with because that's where your potential is. Hope I've helped.

Depends on you.
I have worked 10p to 8a 4x a week in the past and I currently work 9p to 6a.
The hardest thing to adjust to is the sleeping when it is sunny out.
The type of work also will impact how much you like it. If it is a call center than expect to deal with nothing but nutjobs. If it is job where you basically are unsupervised doing a task, than it can be a blast.

Sometimes there's short term pain for long term gain. The company you are applying for may desparately need help on that shift. You'll have the opportunity, as time goes on, to move to a shift that best suits your needs.

I worked nites for years, I had no choice. I would not recommend it unless you have to, I would rotate from nights to days and consequently my sleep pattern was always disrupted. When I worked night I would average 4-5 hrs sleep during the day, and would often times be woken up by noise outside or in the house.

most places offer a financial incentive attached to the midnight shift......be prepared for a sleep-adjustment cycle.....your social life basically goes in the garbage can because most people are partying when your working
