if you ask the people in the countries they hate it

If you're wondering why communism still exists in the countries that are actually communist, it's for a number of reasons. First of all, the leaders of those governments are not about to step down and relinquish power, even if the masses are opposed to their rule. Secondly, adopting communism carries a certain amount of prestige (or at least it used to.) Struggling small nations would suddenly find themselves thrust onto the world stage with powerful allies. Third, nationalistic pride often means there are just as many people who like communism as there are people who hate it. And fourth, many communist nations have seen the struggles that Russia and East Germany went through after giving up communism, and they may have decided that it's not worth the trouble.

Then there's the question of why organized communist and socialist parties exist in the US. None of the five reasons above apply to them. They exist because they are blinded by a naive idealism. They believe that communism is a sound idea in principle that have hit unfortunate snags in implementation. To them, corruption, oppression and economic hindrance are historical accidents, not problems linked to the system itself.

Or they're emotionally unbalanced people who get off on authoritarianism, revolution, or both.

Because those in power in the Communist countries like having and keeping that power, and so they do everything they can, including oppressing the people they claim to serve, to maintain the status quo.

Also, in every non-Communist society, there are some poor people who think that if we all made the same wages and everybody had a job then their life would be better. But the problem is, some are willing to work harder than others, and those who are willing to work harder should be rewarded in some way for their hard work, and
Communism does not allow for this.
