My Display Properties says my maximum resolution is 1600x1200 pixels. Will everything display right on a 20-inch 1680x1050 pixel monitor?

To answer you, Adam J, I still haven't bought this monitor I'm speaking of, I just wanted to make sure it would display right when I did buy it.
Thanks for the info. :)

You need the latest drivers for you video card and your monitor. Video card drivers are frequently updated to support new resolutions. Your monitor driver (it should be on the manufacturer's website) could be the "key" that unlocks the optimal resolution, however. This driver is really little more than a text file that indicates your monitor's supported resolutions. It will specify your 1680x1050 mode.

If you install both and still don't get the resolution, contact your video card's manufacturer. Tell them your monitor brand, model and resolution and ask for assistance getting it to work (you may need to wait until they deliver a new driver).

Yes, it will display fine. In fact your system will default to only those resolutions that your monitor and video adapter will both display.

You will probably end up at a resolution like 1600x1050, but you might have to experiment to see which one 'appears correct'.

On the Desktop, right click, Properties, Settings tab, there is a slider to chose the resolution you prefer.

it will give you a list of resolutions the monitor can take. if its for games you wont see as high as a frame rate as you do now if you change the monitor res but you should be able to set it to the max on the moniter

i got a dell xps with a ati 9800 and my screen can only go to 1280 by 1024 but my card can go way higher most cards will go as high as you can it has to do with how well can it render at that resolution

I don't see why not. Are you sure your monitor is 1680x1050? I'm not calling you stupid, but the maximum resolution should be just as big as your monitor can support. I wouldn't worry about it... sorry.
