I have an hp dv6258se that I bought about a month ago. It's running Vista pre-installed. It worked fine for about a week but now about every other time I start it up, it has issues. A blue screen will come up stating some error and then at the bottom states crash dump initializing. What is this and how do I fix it? I have not installed any strange programs that I don't trust, nor do I have a virus that any of my up to date scanning software can find.

There should be another message your getting on the blue screen, here is a link to the most common blue screen errors.

If you can't find your message there, then I would suggest doing a system repair install, you will either use the cd's that came with your computer or the ones that you created from your computer if no disk came with the computer. If you have not created the disk go here.

If you do not want to create the disk or are un able to, call hp and request them to send them to you. We did that with my sister computer and they sent them to her for free.

If you do have the disk then follow these steps.
Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.
When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.
Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.
Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.
In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.
Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Contact the store you bought the PC from. Or contact HP directly.

But my advise: DUMP VISTA!!!

Vista has A LOT of issues right now so i suggest you wait until a service pack comes out for it.
