Looking for independent shippers or people on route to Iowa to drop off a rear hatch to a friend.

If it's too big for the bus try freight haulers. There are a lot of freight companies who haul LTL less than a load freight and will pick it up from your door.
Also there is this cat named Craig who has a List and you can find people moving on there etc...

If you pack it well, you may be able to ship it Greyhound or Amtrak.

For a pretty reasonable fee, I've known them to ship furniture. I don't see why they wouldn't do a car part as well. Call their customer service 800 numbers.

I would go to a truckstop post it on the bulliten board and try to find a flatbed truck driver covering the area you want to ship it
