my car has been having some trouble would try and try to start after about 10mins it would turn over then it wouldnt turn unless it was jumped now i took the battery to autozone they said it was bad replaced it and now its not doing anything at all. I jumped it and it started then waited and turned it off then tried to turn it on nothing. Jumped it again and tried the alternator test and it stayed running so i know its not that. Any suggestions?

If, when you jumped it, you placed the donor positive on your positive and the donor negative on the engine or the car itself and it started, then check the negative battery cable. It may be corroded inside the outer coating or it may not be making a proper contact on the car or engine.

If you placed the donor positive on the starter positive and it started, but it doesnt start normally, then check the positive cable.

*** Most important before replacing any cables -- check the terminals. It might just be that they need a clean or need replacing.***

A new battery should start a car several times so the alternator doesn't need to be checked. The car starts when it is jumped so that eliminates the starter and the cables to the battery. The only thing left is the connections to the battery.

if the car starts using jump leads then that means you can eliminate the starter as the problem as it can turn the engine over you say you replaced the battery so that is elimated from the problem the next thing to check is all connections between the battery and the car especially the connection to the body of the car on the negative lead from the battrey side ensure that the battery terminals are clean

Sounds like the battery connections. Check the main cables from the battery (I assume these are tight, after you replaced the battery) to their point of connection. A loose or corroded connection will allow a low amperage draw to pass, but when under a large amperage load (such as the starter requires) the bad connection will ''break'' usually with an arc and possibly some smoke.

With a voltage tester across the battery terminals and car running should read 13.5 - 13.9 volts. If it's within these specs the alternator is doing its job. The starting system sounds like a bad solenoid or a bad starter Bendix. Good Luck.

Could be a faulty starter motor, or solenoid, faulty battery, bad earth, bad connection to the battery, or the car may need a tune up, new points (older car), ht leads breaking down, fuel pump on the way out (electrical pump), a computer sensor need replacing and the list go's on

Have the alternator checked the test you did isn't always accurate but if you have replaced the battery it could be an ignition problem what kind of car is it that will help to better diagnose the problem

Maybe you burned out your starter trying to start it for 10 minutes. Does the power come on at all, lights, gauges, etc.? If not then I would check the battery cables.

Could be the positive or negative battery cables, the starter solenoid or the starter.

first of each and every of the starter motor and the alternator are diverse products of kit attatched to diverse components of the engine and it particularly is puzzling to think of what could be carried out to the two to steer them to consequently fault. i do no longer whether that your motor vehicle has carried out over one hundred thousand miles and sweetness whether the two starter and alternator are originals. in the event that they're then i might say they have carried out remarkably nicely, the alternator in specific. by technique of your description i might advise that the starter motor remained engaged with the engine after commencing and consequently grew to become heated. If the alternator failed at on the subject of an analogous time then it would account on your lighting fixtures furnishings dimming and the engine ultimately scuffling with. that is common for the two products of kit to fail at around an analogous time. I advise that in case you're unhappy with the provider you gained from the storage who did your servicing then you particularly locate yet another. certainly the RAC are able to (unofficially) advise one for you. i think of you may locate it very puzzling to coach negligence on the area of that storage without company info yet you may point out it on your new storage in case something untoward is got here upon by technique of them.
