I'm going back to school and I want some advice on what to major in. I have a family and I want to get a good paying job right out of college. What's a good major?

Bad idea to go to school just to go to school, esp. if you are going back. You should have a good idea on what your career interest is before deciding. You may end up wasting a ton of money trying to figure out your career interest. However, if you can get a liberal arts degree, which is a general degree, you can work with that. Maybe you could just major in an umbrella degree like business, business management, etc. For instance, you'll be applying, after graduating, at a BUSINESS right? Furthermore, sometimes employers view a college graduate as someone who endured/made their way through college. It's not like colleges are simply handing out degrees right? It shows you accomplished something and have the ability to learn.

Take it from one who knows, don't just go after a job that pays well. If you don't really love what you're doing, don't do it! If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. That having been said, a good background in accounting and finance, particularly at the MBA level, will give you a host of opportunities in the business world, not just in the accounting department. You may know that many of General Motors' past CEO's have come out the financial arena within GM. Computer science is also a good major in that it offers a broad spectrum of job opportunities. I parlayed a computer education into a role as an international business planning consultant and an executive with an international airline company! Whatever you choose, work hard and learn well. There's a lot of competition out there. Good luck.

You need to find something you like doing. I happen to like computers, and studied computer science.

Computers, and finance (accounting) pay well. Go look through www.salary.com to find out what jobs pay. See if there is something you like doing.
