There's been many speculations of the Akatsuki member Tobi being the legendary Obito (well at least in Kakashi's mind) from Kakashi Gaiden. Is this true?

He could be. It's entirely possible; I mean... Obi...to...Tobi! It kind of makes sense. Plus! (haHA!) His mask has ONE eyehole, and he appears to not want people to know what village he was from. That could be the reason. And if that was, in fact, the case, then wouldn't the Uchiha clan have...? Or am I just crazy?

Obito is dead. Tobi, on the other hand, is alive. Kakashi knows Obito is dead, and Kakashi also knows that hi friend Obito will never turn his back on him like that. We're not so sure, and myspace could be wrong, but might as well just wait and see.

There is a possibility. Remember that Sasuke's brother said: (although I can't remember the exact words...) Live and acquire Mangekyu Sharingan... if that happens, there will be three of us who knows how to use it.
And also, in the Naruto Shippuden Episodes, when Sasuke entered Naruto's mind and talked to the nine-tails, the nine tails was talking about an Uchiha who had the eyes of the devil.
Hmmm... this Uchiha the fox was talking about could be the same Uchiha that Itachi was refering to AND it could be OBITO whom Kakashi thought of in Kakashi's Gaiden.

Yes, Tobi is actually Obito..... If you search on myspace they give alot of answers to Naruto questions

its hard to tell hopefully we will see more of him soon so we can find out.but wasnt his eye hole on the left side.
