honey, when a daughter needs her mothers help there's no way to deny it. if you want to feel independent ask for her suggestion and do it yourself. don't just hand your mother the problem and let her fix it. ask her for suggestions and put them into action yourself. that's a start. knowledge is power!

Tough it out. I'm a teen mom...and I can't stand my mother most of the time. But I play nice and I don't say a thing because although we don't need her money right this minute I'm not sure what could happen a month from now. She's also the one who got me my current job...and she pulled the strings to get my husband the interview at his job. You are no longer what you should be worried about. You child needs you to do whats best for them...even if it's a tough pill to swallow. Put on a happy face and secretly start planning what you'll do when you finally can get away. Personally I've got the dream of a little house in New England that gets me through my mom's tirades and insults. You just have to deal with it.
To the woman above my post: Thank you for only highlighting the bad examples. From someone who succeeds and has a gorgeous well mannered child, stuff it. Keep your rehearsed canned rhetoric to yourself.

What the heck!!! I'm 32 and STILL need my mom's help! Independant? Come on! You are a minor child. You need to finish high school. You shouldn't be raising a child. Your life is essentially over before you begin. You don't get to go partying anymore. You don't get to have "normal" friendships or a "normal" social life.
Chances are good that your baby will be raised in poverty. Children of teenaged mothers have a significantly higher incidence of drug use, (this is bad, by the way!) suicide, depression, discipline problems, run-ins with the law, illiteracy....and so on and so on. Sounds like a fun life for a child, doesn't it? Think about it. Maybe you need to explore some options.

Im a teen mother to, and well its always good to have someone there that has went though it first. You're mother will always been there for you so dont forget that. If you want help with something just ask her how its done and see if you can do it without her doing it for you, also just tell her that you want to learn on you're own and do the best as a mother as you can. Goodluck!

You will ALWAYS need your mothers help no matter what you are doing. A mother is someone like no other. When I am 90 years old, I'll probably still be looking for my mothers help. So just let her help you. I know you want to feel independent, and you should, but let your mother help.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with still needing your mother and her advice and just her love and moral support thru this tough time! She is your mother and will always be there for u and alwayas love u no matter what! You can try by always being the one to get up with the baby in the middle of the night- make sure you dont leave the baby when u go out with friends. If u cant take the baby- dont go at all! Take extra time to play and bond with your child but PLEASE make sure you allow your mother-grand ma lots of time to love on her grand baby and to spoil them rotten! Thats what I cant wait for!

You can still ask for help and be independent. My oldest is almost 9 and I still ask about stuff. Don't shut her out, she loves you and will do anything to help you. But let her know in a nice way if she is getting too involved. You need her help through the first few weeks, even months though.

Well that depends! Take me for instance--I am a teen mother, also! I am 17 years old! Me & my boyfriend have been together since I had my little boy! We havent had to have help that much! But when we did, our money was low, or either my boyfriend had gotten laid off, and we had to have diapers! I had to ask my mother! Yeah, I hated it, but he had to have diapers either way I went! If you dont have a boyfriend around, then you should just get a job! If you arent old enough, then your mother is going to have to help you until you can get on your feet!

i would take your mom's advice when she gives it to you. i know feeling independent is a big issue, especially when it comes to your parenting abilities. but trust me, you will definetely need her help more than you know. take her advice, but maybe try to do it a different way. then that will make you feel like you did it yourself, not that you just did what she said. the child is yours and in the end, it is your responsibility and your decisions that will shape the child. good luck honey!! and take as much help as you can... you'll realize how much you really appreciate it later.

TRUST me my sister has been there. BUT 4 that babys sake and you want her to have a family too, humble your self. EVEN i shut my mouth. Because our mother stopped the welfare from taking my niece a way from us. SO moms can get on your nerves, but they can save you from the court system.MY gf lost her baby to the court system 11 years ago she has never seen her since.
