There is a girl I work with very closely in my office. There is only about 5 people on our staff. I have worked here for just under two years, we are close to the same age and have become friends. She is a really nice person on a personal level but at work is a different story all together.

She is constantly undermining (<--- spelling?) me, making me look bad to the bosses and just generally being a bi*tch. She treats me like crap here. I have stopped hanging out with her outside of work so much just because I don't like how two faced she seems to be.

As a matter of fact as I was typing this I had to pause because my boss came into my office to discuss with me something she told him I did wrong wich was completely untrue. It goes really deep down to her refusing to order me business cards because I "don't need them" when I am in a higher more sensitive position than her to boot. She cancelled an order I placed on my own once saying I "went over her head and behind her back". HELP

I really don't know what to do here. I have tried to talk to her about it before and she just blows me off. Then it gets worse. I have spent a lot of time and money in school and worked really hard to get where I am and I am not ready to have a high school dropout receptionist ruin it all for me!

Humm you have got to get your temper out on that b****! You have to stand your ground girl cuz if you don't she will ruin your reputation at work. Next time she tells your boss something about you talk to your boss and tell him that you want a conference with her. You want to confront her in front of your boss. Explain the things she does, and how unconfortable she makes you feel. Find out what are the consequesces for her behavior. I think you could write a letter to her working record. That way if she ever goes to another job they will have proof that she is a back-stabber. Stop the "friendly" attitude with her. Next time she says something catty to you, stop her right in her tracks. Tell her "are you trying to say something Mrs. drop out"? If you have to tell me something, say it in plain English. And don't try to be friends with her, it just doesn't work. She envys you. Good Luck!

First have a talk with your boss about the situation. Odds are he/she noticed something by now. Explain the situation without bringing anything personal into the matter and show how her actions are hurting productivity. After that, do your job and practically ignore her. When she talks to your boss, prove that what she says is wrong without badmouthing her. Reorder your business cards and do not inform her about it. People like that tend to self destruct if given the time and space to.

Sounds like you need an intervention. Ask her out to drinks or something and after some social lubricant has been applied explain your position. Most people don't know they are hurting other people by their actions. You could always hockey fight her too.

This is a problem between you and your boss, not her. You need to control this situation by talking to your boss about the problems. He needs to solve this problem or choose between the two of you.
